THE CHALLENGE
Teams must design & 3D print a contraption to protect a raw egg from breaking as it is dropped from a set of predetermined distances.
There will be 3 rounds of drops with each surviving team advancing to the next round. They will move forward with the same egg but are able to replace their contraption’s broken parts with new prints or replace the contraption entirely with an identical print
ROUND 1: 6ft DROP
ROUND 2: 14ft DROP
ROUND 3: 25ft DROP
In the event of a tie with multiple teams successfully beating all 3 rounds, a winner will be selected via judge’s decision based on CREATIVITY, RELIABILITY, & AESTHETICS
The winning team after the 3 rounds will receive our coveted Egg Drop Trophy, as well as FREE filament for an entire school year*! Here is the video from the 2020 competition.
THE RULES & REGULATIONS
-Each contraption is to be made entirely of 3D printed components (FDM machines only)
-Any & all FDM compatible filaments are allowed (PLA, ABS, TPU, ETC.)
-The weight of each contraption may not exceed 150 grams
-GLUE & TAPE IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED
-Final designs must be that of your own & cannot be designs readily available on the internet
REGISTRATION
-This competition is completely FREE for schools to compete in, but we will only be accepting 20 teams.
-This competition is for High School & Middle School students only with only one team per school allowed, but there is no limit to the number of members you can have. Whether your team is an entire grade or just a small robotics club (or anything in between), you can compete with us.
-The application deadline is October 15 th, 2021, and we will announce the competing teams through email on October 18 th, 2021. Use the following link to apply:
DROP DAY DETAILS
Similar to last year, our competition will take place behind closed doors at our MakerGear facility in Beachwood, Ohio with the entire event broadcasted live on November 19 th, 2021via YouTube. The link to this live event will be provided via email the day before the broadcast.
Competing teams will need to mail us their contraptions OR drop them off directly at our facility NO LATER THAN NOVEMBER 10 th! If your design is expected to break or has parts designed to shatter, please provide replacement parts to replace between rounds.
